My take on the latest news from NHS England

Here my rant on why I think the NHS Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Hubs are a great thing...

BUT

I can foresee that the majority of families will still need more support and could well slip through the net...

We must still wake up to the fact that we MUST take care of our mental health when we are at our most vulnerable and that’s when we become pregnant. AND that it’s a FAMILY AFFAIR. Until we recognise this we will be going around in circles...

These hubs are only for moderate to severe psychological symptoms and do not address those who may not come forward, may not be honest on the assessment forms and the partners and families of anyone struggling.

I believe these hubs could be for everyone. Every parent and child too. Preserving and protecting mental health by educating and conditioning simple, effective mental wellbeing skills that suit every individual. This will make the most difference.

What do you think?

This is why I created Beyond Birth Guide, Sessions and Practitioner Training. If we support people perinatally, we owe it to them to bring mental health awareness and wellbeing into our practices - for our clients and also ourselves.
